Torino WorldDesign Capital
“Torino World Design Capital was for the city a workshop, an occasion to create new relationships and reaffirm those that already existed […]. After this year private businesses and public institutions are certainly more aware of the potential that design is able to offer in the view of improving products and services and we wish that they are able to show designers a commitment to give into the impulse for this sector. Now one deals not to throw away the patronage of mature experience during this long journey.”
Paola Zini, Director Torino 2008 World Design Capital
Why Torino?
The World Design Capital initiative born in 2005 by Icsid (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design) was directed towards a biennial identity of the cities and regions that exalt design, projected research and innovation as factors of economic, social and cultural development. The choice of Torino was an acknowledgement of the city and its surrounding area, to the joined development of the strong industrial tradition with the vocations of innovation and research.
